Make your Computer Screen into a Playable Mario Level with Screentendo

If you're bored at work and are looking for an excuse to put off your work Screentendo might be the answer.



This application lets you transform any website into a playable level for the famous 1980s Nintendo classic Mario Bros.



And the creator of the app has released step-by-step instructions to convert the pages to blocks - however, it requires a certain amount of coding expertise to use.

A developer from London has developed Super Mario code for Macs. Called Screentendo It uses a window to change websites into 'blocks'. Mario can be controlled by the stage as in the game. However it requires a little small amount of programming to enable the feature. Screentendo created the MailOnline logo.



Screentendo was built by a London-based developer Aaron Randall.



When you drag a window over the web page, different components can be turned into blocks from the Super Mario games.

Mario himself appears, allowing players to move around on the level and destroy the blocks.

15 video games that have kept gamers for untold hours have been chosen as finalist for the new World Video Game Hall of Fame.



The list includes arcade trailblazers Pong and Space Invaders, smartphone favourites Angry Birds and Minecraft and an array of others for consoles and computers.



They include: Doom, FIFA soccer and the Legend of Zelda.



To actually make use of it, you'll have to be able to alter source code using a program called CocoaPods.



He explained that Screentendo starts with transparent windows that can be moved and resized to be able to fit over other applications.



"After placing the Screentendo Window on an area of the screen and clicking inside it, the app will render an appropriate level based on the content below it."



Mr Randall told MailOnline he built the app in a few days'.



He claimed that the most difficult aspect of the program was image processing. This involved making the app be able to recognize any kind of image and the underlying structure in order to be able to generate an image that is of a certain quality.

He stated that it works on any website , but it is most effective on pages with a high degree of contrast.

Randall said that he built it out of his passion for building things particularly smaller projects like this.



He added: "It's a great excuse to learn new frameworks and languages and to try to solve some intriguing issues that you might not normally get to work on.



"The idea came in a conversation with a colleague. He spends a lot of time looking at graphs that track our servers. I joked that I'd create an application that overlays these graphs to make them more interesting.



MailOnline was informed by Mr Randall that he created the program in just a few days. He said that the most challenging part of the application was the image processing. This involved making the app be able to recognize any type of image and the underlying structure to create an appropriate level.



"A few weeks later we had a hackday at my office (where everyone is working on whatever they want), and I put together something that eventually became Screentendo.



He noted on his website that the application is a proof-of-concept hack , but still has some flaws.



He also said that the phyiscs were still slightly off. He just wanted to design something that would work well enough'.
