Age of Empires meets Doom? Hell yeah

Id Software's legendary Doom is available in a lot of things including Minecraft, crabs and even in an article we wrote. Age of Empires 2 can now be added to the list of games. Modders have created a complete strategy campaign that is based on Doom and features the legendary sound effects from the FPS and sprites.
"Age of Doom" was created by modder HellKnight61 (thanks, DSOGaming). It is a fully custom campaign for Age of Empires 2 and replays the events of the original Doom. 360 Degrees All The Way Around It is mostly in the style of Doom 3 with Dr. Betruger orchestrating the escape from Hell by demons. However characters from later Doom games such as Vega do appear.
The mod hit version 1.0 this week and can be download at ModDB. It's currently missing the final episode but it does include four episodes and the tutorial. HellKnight61 has added many features to make it play more Doom-like than Age of Empires, including the ability for the Doom marine to flip switches, use teleporters and even sprint.
The Doom guy gets all the classic weapons of Doom all the way to the BFG or Doom 3's Soul Cube. All the monsters are there, and many contain sound effects culled from different games. It's basically Doom as an isometric strategy-shooter through an Age of Empires lens, and it's an impressive piece of work.
Both the Doom and Age of Empires franchises are still in good shape, despite being released in the late '90s. Age of Empires 4 is out in the next month, and it could even receive a second beta before then. Doom Eternal, which was released last year, is still being enhanced and there may be more stories with the Doom Slayer.
