Microsoft and Mojang don't just have a story-driven Minecraft game to showcase at Minecon 2015 -- they're also unveiling a beta version of Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition. This version will replace the less-than-ideal Java code found in desktop versions with native Windows code. It also shares roots with Pocket Edition, which you usually find on smartphones. You'll also have the chance to create worlds with mobile players with an update that's expected to launch "soon" after the beta is released. The construction game will, as you might expect, benefit from Windows 10's many Xbox tie-ins like eight-way gaming (both locally and online) and video recording. If you have an existing PC version, the beta will be available on the 29th of July. 360 Degrees All The Way Around It'll be cost-free. If you're new to all this, it'll cost $10 to join during the test phase.
