Hey, here's some good news on NFTs for once! Mojang has released an updated guide to the rules governing NFTs and blockchain.
You've probably seen the baffling amount of frauds when it comes to NFTs in particular, and also companies using the "blockchain" when they don't have any need for it. Thankfully, Mojang have listened and issued some rules, and the basic idea is that "integrations of NFTs into Minecraft are not something we would accept or support" they said.
Minecraft Servers
Their latest news article provides an introduction to the nature of NFTs and gives a brief explanation of the reason they have rules for server owners as well as creators of content. The goal is to "ensure that Minecraft remains a community in which everyone can access the same content". Part of the problem is the way in which NFTs "create models of exclusion and scarcity that violate our Guidelines and the nature of Minecraft".
Mojang make their position firmly explicit about it, declaring that "As such to ensure that Minecraft players have a secure and inclusive experience, blockchain technology is not allowed to be integrated into our Minecraft client and server applications nor may they be used to create NFTs with any game content, such as worlds, skins, items for personas, or any other mods. ".
This is good, because it could prevent another Blockverse that was intended to be a "on-chain Ethereum NFT that would allow an exclusive P2E for Minecraft". Can you guess what happened? They made a lot of money and then vanished with it.
However they're not ruled out the possibility of using blockchain within Minecraft in the event that it can "allow for more secure gaming or other practical and inclusive applications in gaming" however, they have no plans for it as of right now.
