Turkey: Ministry to investigate Minecraft 'violence' News from Elsewhere... ... media reports from around the globe that were discovered by BBC Monitoring

According to reports, the Turkish government is investigating allegations that Minecraft is violent enough.
The game is categorized as suitable for children aged seven and over in much of Europe, and for those older than 10 in the United States. According to the Haberturk website the country's social and family policy minister, Aysenur Islamic, has initiated an investigation into claims that the game encourages aggression. The website says that if the government finds the game to be too violent, they can ask for a nationwide ban. The decision was prompted by a journalist who revealed to Mrs. Islam that players get points for killing other characters - which includes women and asked what her ministry would be doing regarding it. The Pan European Game Information group, which assigns ratings to computer games, says Minecraft contains "non-realistic-looking violence towards characters which, although human, are not very detailed".
A journalist from a Turkish gaming magazine believes that the ministry's concerns are misplaced. "I have never witnessed any child with a sword and attacking people due to Minecraft," Kaan Gezer says on the Leadergamer website. "Stories like this can cause the video game industry in Turkey to slow down or deteriorate." Minecraft is extremely popular among gamers of all ages, and reached its 100 millionth user in February 2014. yurock Teachers at a few schools in the UK have also played it.
