According to reports, the government of Turkey is investigating claims that Minecraft is too violent.
The game is suitable for children between 7 and 10 years old in the majority of Europe and the United States. According to the Haberturk website, Turkey's family and social policy minister, Aysenur Islamic, has initiated an investigation into claims that the game encourages aggression. If it's considered too violent, the government could request a nationwide ban, the website states. The move was prompted by a journalist who told Mrs. Islam that players get points for killing other characters - which includes women and asked what her ministry would do about it. The Pan European Game Information group, which assigns ratings to computer games, says Minecraft contains "non-realistic-looking violence towards characters which, although human, are not very detailed".

One journalist from an Turkish gaming magazine says the ministry's concerns aren't true. Kaan Gezer is a Leadergamer journalist, claimed that she's never witnessed a child take a sword and assault people due to Minecraft. "Stories such as these are what cause the Turkish video gaming industry to stall or even worsen." Minecraft is extremely popular with gamers of all different ages. In February 2014, it reached its 100 millionth user. It has also been used by teachers in some schools across the UK.
