How to Get Minecraft Capes

The capes were previously only available to Minecon attendees The opportunity to purchase your very own Minecraft capes. Learn how to get them in both Minecraft Java and Bedrock

How can you get hold of Minecraft capes, you ask? There have been rumors about a mythical piece of cloth that is worn on the shoulders of the most prestigious Minecraft players. Legends tell of a myriad of Minecraft capes handed out to the lucky few throughout the years. The word on the block (sigh) is that capes alter the appearance of Minecraft Elytra, the magical wings found on the end of ships, as they share the same area on a player's back. Naturally, Minecraft capes are extremely sought-after, but they haven't been easy to obtain.



Participants who attended any Minecon event before Minecon Earth 2017 each received Minecraft caps; each year, there was a different color and design. The most unusual are the personal capes given to lucky people in recognition of their achievements, like Reddit user u/billyk_, who was given a personal turtle cape after he suggested that Mojang should add turtles to Minecraft.



If you're unable to think of a concept as good as turtles (unlikely) or can time travel back to Minecons past It appears that you're not going to obtain any of these Minecraft capes in the Java version. They're a bit more common in the Bedrock version, since some skin packs on the Marketplace contain them. If you'd like to have them free, you can test to make a cape with the help of Minecraft mods, though it'll only be visible to you. There is one currently available Minecraft cape available for the Java version, but it's not available for purchase, so read on to find out how to get it.



Get a Minecraft cape by migrating your account to Minecraft.



In a blog post published in 2020, Mojang announced that it will be migrating all Minecraft Java edition accounts from Mojang to Microsoft. This is a required change that if you do not switch your account to Microsoft at the time it is due then you'll never be able to play Minecraft unless you use the launcher.



On the plus side, after you sign in to Minecraft using your Microsoft account, you'll be able to unlock a brand new cape and possibly more than that, as Mojang hints at players receiving 'more than one outfit to display'. New Minecraft accounts are automatically registered using Microsoft instead of Mojang.

How do I activate Minecraft capes



If you have an official Minecraft cape, you are able to equip them prior to starting an online game. However, your capes Bedrock capes are exclusive to the version you have. minecraft The same applies to any capes you earn in the Minecraft Java version.



Start the app and then click the button to open the Dressing Room from your main menu. Next, click the tab to the left of the screen with a red cape with the Mojang logo. This will show all of the capes available Choose one, then click equip.



For the Java version, you must launch the Launcher and click on Minecraft: Java Edition on the left side of the screen. This brings up some options at the top including Skins. Click this option to display all your skins currently available. From here, you can create your own skin or edit an existing one. Under the option to choose a Skin File, you will see all your officially available caps.



Make a cape using Minecraft mods



What if you really would like your avatar to sport an actual cape and aren't interested in the free cape for migration? Luckily, with the power of mods, you can have your own cape that can blare in your direction as you walk! You can get any of the coveted capes in the game - or even better than any cape you can conceive of - using mods like the Advanced Capes Mod.



There is a caveat that other players you interact with on multiplayer Minecraft servers aren't able to see your cape unless they have the same mods installed. The only way to obtain capes that everyone can see is by waiting for official capes to be given to you from Mojang as it transfers your account.
