James Whitfield Thomson is an American novelist. A former sales executive and U.S. Navy navigator in Vietnam, he lives in Natick, Massachusetts. He received a grant from the Massachusetts Council for the Arts to pursue his writing career. His first novel, LIES YOU WANT TO HEAR, is the result of an impromptu workshop with Andre Dubus. In this interview, he talks about his influences, how his work is different from other books in his genre, and why it is different.
The novel takes place in a family of five, including an alcoholic father and a wife with five children. It is a satirical look at the social and political world of America, and Thomson's wit and charm make readers laugh and cry.
