The Warner Bros. Minecraft movie has been given a new director... again. Variety reports that Peter Sollett has been hired to write and direct the long-awaited movie. The film was originally planned to be released in May this year. Production has been delayed due to director changes. The film was originally being directed by Rob McElhenney (It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia), but he left the project in August. He was also taking the reins from Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum) who dropped out in 2014.
Sollett was the director of Raising Victor Vargas, 2002 and Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist (2008). Sollett has also been praised for his work on Five Feet High and Rising. minecraft servers Minecraft's developer Mojang is believed to be still working on the project.
Warner Bros. acquired the rights to Minecraft in 2014. The question now is whether Minecraft will still be able to attract the same amount of people as it did a few years ago. While it's not known when the film will be released, there's an opportunity that it could, with the new director.
