Making Minecraft and Mods on Steam Deck is Simple and Easy

Want to get Minecraft working easily on Steam Deck or a normal Linux desktop without much fuss? This is one way to do it and it's a breeze. For this I picked the PolyMC launcher (a variant of MultiMC) available on Flathub as the official Minecraft launcher Flatpak doesn't save your password on Steam Deck and PolyMC of course deals with modding too.

Here's a video tutorial from the past for you, along with the steps in text below:

This video is also available on the Steam Deck section in the PolyMC Wiki!

Text steps:

- Install PolyMC through the Discover Software Centre on Steam Deck or Flathub directly for desktop Linux. - Launch PolyMC and then add your account to the upper right corner of. It supports both Mojang and Microsoft logins. In the main PolyMC Settings, click Minecraft in the left panel , and then click the option to close PolyMC when the game window opens. If you try loading the game in Game Mode / Deck UI on Steam Deck it will switch between the two windows. Make sure that in the PolyMC Settings that Java is updated to the most recent version, which is necessary for the latest Minecraft. Click Add Instance at the top left. Next, choose normal Minecraft or mods with built-in search. It will install everything you need. If you want to launch directly from Steam go to the Games menu at the top, then click Add a game that is not Steam and then select PolyMC in the list.

Some YouTube comments suggested you try out optimized modpacks. However, I was unable to notice a significant difference in performance or power consumption to justify their use on Deck when testing the same map seed. Mods for controllers were also suggested, but they're not updated often and only work with specific Minecraft versions, so sticking to Steam Input and just adjusting only a few keys is the best option for that. 53vv.com Update How to access Steam Deck or Gamepad controls in Minecraft.
