The Danish government has recreated the entire country using the popular computer game Minecraft.

The government hopes that it will make learning more enjoyable for students by being the first nation to be fully integrated into the blocky Minecraft games.

It even created plans for teachers' lessons to guide them through this virtual version of their nation.

Denmark's Ministry of the Environment has created a large-scale model of the country in Minecraft for players to explore.

The model that is downloaded consists of 4,000 billion blocks and requires one terabyte of storage space.

WHAT IS MINECRAFT?

Minecraft was created in 2009. Minecraft was first created in 2009.

They can then walk through different terrains, including mountains, forests and caves.

Players can also fly up in the air for an aerial view of the surrounding landscape.

To build cities and towns, players are given blocks and tools.

As players progress they will acquire advanced tools and building blocks made from different materials.

Although the original game was intended to be played on the PC There are now versions for mobile and Xbox 360.

The model is comprised of around 4000 billion bricks, and takes up about 1TB (1000 Gigabytes) for those who want to download the entire nation.

"We have created Denmark online in Minecraft so that children can plant their trees create a lake, a riding school wind turbines, biogas plants and more," said Kirsten Brosbol (Danish Minister of the Environment).

'The imagination is the only limit.

"This is our method of making a link between the digital and the natural worlds.'

It was developed by Simon Kokkendorf and Thor Bjorn Nielsen from Geodatastyrelsen which is the Danish mapping arm of the government.

They took public information about the country ranging from elevation models to information about buildings and roads. They translated it into Minecraft's distinctive bricks.

The team also developed an electronic map system so that visitors can easily locate their own area within the model.

They will also be able to observe the landscapes and nature in their natural habitat.

The Agency said that you can "go for a walk" in the countryside of Denmark. You can also view any area in Denmark in a similar way as Google Street View.

Orestad school in Copenhagen has been testing the system for teaching students geography and maths.

'In the old days, the teacher would play the old map of Denmark in the class room and have the students slave over the names of the different regions of Denmark according to Katrin Kristensen, a teacher at Orestad school.

In the near future, Danish school children and others will be able record in the game of plants and animals they have observed or discovered in nature.

'Now Denmark is available on children's computers or tablets, advancing the concept of using digital solutions in teaching.

We have already had good experiences using Minecraft in maths teaching, for example.

'With the 'real Denmark' now available as a Minecraft world, we will have even more opportunities to encourage learning.

"Pupils find it more fun to work with their own home and street, and so on."

The developers made one change to the game: they removed the ability to use Dynamite in order to blow up certain areas.
