Caves & Cliffs: Part II is currently being developed by Mojang as the next major Minecraft upgrade and you can test the new world generation version.
It's a huge change to the way the world is created in Minecraft so Mojang decided to do things a bit differently this time. Unlike normal testing, this is not an actual Snapshot that you download through the launcher. Instead, if you go to their blog post explaining the program, it provides you with some information and the download link.
Although it's all subject change, here's a few things that are different:
New world heights and depths - New mountain biomes (lofty peak and snowcapped peaks as well as meadows, groves and snowy slopes). Caves - New cave generation (cheese and spaghetti caves) and local water levels. Cave biomes are naturally created underground and inside mountains (lush Caves or dripstone caves). Minecraft servers list Natural variation of terrain shape and elevation, independent from biomes. For example forests and deserts can develop on a hill, without needing a separate biome for the purpose of that.
