Minecraft Says it doesn't Want anything to do with NFTs, Blockchain

While some industries are weighing in on NFTs however, the videogame industry is making it clear that NFTs are "No F'n Thanks" in their industry.



The most recent company to stand up against non-fungible tokens: Mojang Studios, the developer of the hugely loved video game Minecraft.

In a statement that was released today on the official Minecraft website, titled "Minecraft and NFTs," the company made it crystal clear that it will not allow any sort of blockchain or NFT integration with its game.



Mojang Studios and Minecraft laid out a few reasons for being against NFTs. They stated that fake shortage plays an important role in. NFTs, or non-fungible tokens are basically digital assets kept on a blockchain. To prove ownership of a piece of NFTs, an individual token is created and then linked to a media file.



The statement makes clear that Minecraft does not oppose monetizing, and uses the example of users charging for access to the Minecraft server as an approved use scenario. However, since NFTs could alter the game's dynamics and give players with monetary means an upperhand in-game The Minecraft developer is opposed to the technology.



"To ensure that Minecraft players have a safe and inclusive experience, blockchain technologies are not permitted to be integrated within our Minecraft client and server applications, nor can they be utilized to create NFTs for any game content, including skins, worlds and other items, or any other mods," declares the statement.



The developer also brought up concerns about the trustworthiness of third-parties who mint Minecraft-related NFTs, and their tendency to drop projects and to fraudulently inflate prices on the NFT aftermarkets.

"It's certainly not NFTs. Absolutely not. You cannot trade them or sell them. It's not making use of any Blockchain technology, and certainly not NFTs." Grace Chen, Sony's vice president of network advertising and loyalty, spoke to The Washington Post.



Mojang Studios ended its statement by saying that they will monitor the development of blockchain technology for future use cases. However this leaves the door open to potential uses based on existing possibilities. However, those who aren't a fan of NFTs can get another win at the very least in the near future.
