SethBling has developed a BASIC interpreter that allows you to build and run basic scripts and programs in Mojang's world-building game. It's essentially using a variety of commands, but it really works. You can print text, and include in-game robots ("turtles") complete tasks. Need to dig a long tunnel? You can create a digging script and let the bot handle all the hard work.
It's impossible to write complex software in a system that wasn't built for it. Code is notoriously slow because of Minecraft's 20Hz operation clock (you cannot execute more than 20 commands per second) and it slows down the more you use it. You don't need to spend weeks developing the interpreter- SethBling has already posted the necessary materials, so it's just matter of installing the add-on and practicing your IF/THEN statements.
