Valheim went live on Steam exactly five weeks ago and has been on fire ever since. Iron Gate's Viking survival sim has soared up the charts, reaching 5 million copies sold in just one month in Early Access and surpassing huge games like Dota 2 in terms of active players concurrently.
Steam reviews for Valheim exude a palpable feeling of awe and satisfaction. Many players compare the experience to the first time they played Minecraft admiring the game's scope and depth and pondering how a team of just five developers managed to pack this immersive experience into a download of just 1GB. Valheim sets players loose in an original realm of Viking purgatory, a vast, procedurally generated, world filled with mythical Norse beasts as well as high seas, hunting and crafting. It's dense yet forgiving; action-packed yet peaceful.

Henrik Tornqvist, Iron Gate co-founder Henrik Tornqvist, Iron Gate cofounder, said to Engadget that "we're doing our best." "It has been quite hectic around here since launch."
Tornqvist, Richard Svensson, the studio founder, are looking to hire a few more people to help with the flood of bug reports that are coming in from thousands of beta testers. Otherwise, it's getting support from Coffee Stain Publishing - the people behind Goat Simulator, a veritable grandpa of viral video games.

Svensson began working on Valheim in the year 2017 as an extra-curricular venture. At the time Svensson and Tornqvist were co-workers at Swedish studio Pieces Interactive, but by early 2018, Svensson had left to concentrate entirely on Valheim.
