Minecraft meet-up in Peterborough described as 'awful'
14 September 2015
Parents who are furious about Minecraft gamers have posted on social media to complain about "awful" queues and a lack of activities to do at an unofficial convention.
About 4,100 people were at MineVention at the Peterborough Arena on Saturday to meet star players and play games.
However, many said they had to wait for hours to see idols or eat food and demanded refunds.
Organiser Lisa O'Brien said the queues were too long, and she would issue a statement regarding refunds when it was time.
The event, which isn't associated or endorsed by Minecraft developer Mojang was first announced in Ireland and was the first time it was held in the UK.
TV presenter
It gave fans of the worldwide gaming smash Minecraft which lets players construct various objects using cubic blocks - an opportunity to meet the world's most famous "Youtubers", get photographs and play games.
The event featured Jason Bradbury, TV's Gadget Show host, and urged participants to dress as Steve the game's main character to attempt a world record.
However, it was also criticized on social media for its long lines, the absence of food and stalls selling merchandise, and other issues.

Vicky Abraham posted on Facebook that she had queued with her five-year-old son for over an hour for just 30 seconds on a computer.
Another parent reported waiting 45 minutes for water bottles, saying the event was "appalling" with "naff-all to do". Another parent called the BBC to report that they left after half an hours because of the long lines and her son was "crying all along the way home."
Some people shared on Facebook that they were happy with the event. One of them saying: "I thought your event was fantastic for PS15."
Lisa O'Brien of O'Brien Event Management said she felt with parents as we all have kids. She said the queues were 45 minutes long due to a large amount of people who turned up on the day rather than buying tickets in advance.
She claimed that the convention had never been done to such a scale before, and some official merchandise didn't arrive in time to be ready for the event.
She said that the organizers had "taken into consideration all comments, suggestions and suggestions" and would be meeting in order to fix any problems. A second statement will be made on Monday evening.
