WRUP: You Think You're Pretty

We all want to be beautiful. In fact, let's admit that we'd love to be beautiful. If everyone was truly stunningly beautiful, we would likely not all be able to hide in the house and play video games. This particular writer, for instance isn't an insect and more of an unholy union between the chimpanzee and the slime from the Dragon Quest series. The real world can be extremely harsh at times.



To face this bleak reality We all have our favorite MMOs that we can play whenever the opportunity arisessuch as right now with this week's WRUP. And with the recent success of the almost-MMO Minecraft We decided to ask everyone what they thought was important that his or her own games be visually appealing. Check out the video below to see our responses , then tell us what you'll be playing this weekend in the comments! Beau Hindman (@Beau_Hindman): I'll be playing DIGDIGDIG little bit of DIGDIGDIGDIG everything and I'm getting ready to leave DIGDIGDIG for GDC. I may DIGDIG some time to DIGDIGDIGDIGDIG play some Minecraft as well.



Graphics? Nah. It's all about the game.



Brianna Royce (@nbrianna) Then I look back on my WRUPs from the past and realize that I am so boring... I am still having fun in City of Heroes. I suppose I'm trying to finish it because I am sure that my guild will flourish once Cataclysm comes out. I recently bought an entirely new tanker, and wow! I can remember why I normally stick to controllers.



I'm not a graphics snob since I play a lot older games. Heck, I'm even toying with the idea of trying out the new Ultima Online boats expansion! But a game has to have something to offset the uglies, some nugget of nostalgia or a brilliant stroke of gameplay or riveting story. A stunning game with poor gameplay, on the other hand? It's not worth my time.



Edward Marshall: I'll be playing Fallen Earth if I can find the time this weekend.



Graphics aren’t very important to me. But, I do expect more than ASCII in the present day and age.



Eliot Lefebvre - Final Fantasy XIV, naturally. Final Fantasy XIV is my current favorite game. I am currently on a hunt for better armor and weapons. Thinkofdeath It is slow but it's fun. I'm also considering taking a break to look through my huge pile of console games.



Simple graphics don't bother my eyes however there must be some reason. Stylized graphics are a very different beast from games that simply look bad. The line between "stylized", and "bad" is blessedly subjective.



Greg Waller: I have been focusing all of my energy and time on WAR lately and I plan to continue that trend throughout the weekend as my new zealot takes on Badlands through Tier 3. In regards to the bonus question: Eye candy is not make a great game. If the gameplay is better, I can live with sub-par graphics.



Jef Reahard, I'll be playing Guitar Hero Warriors of Rock, specifically Rush 2112. I had the pleasure of hearing it blast my eardrums last night in Atlanta. Yes, music games are so 2007. But whatever. If I manage any MMOs it will be my usual AoC/EQII, with a small supplementary dish called FFXIV.



Krystalle Voecks (@Krystalle) Krystalle Voecks (@Krystalle) everything after I upgraded my desktop, so I'm anticipating many, many hours of download and install fun this weekend. In addition, it's more Vanguard and I've been reading the old Masquerade WoD sourcesbooks.



For graphics Let's face it, we like pretty. One Shots is a good example to that. However, I don't believe it's the only way to play games. Minecraft is a hit because it's enjoyable and lets people express their creativity not because it's visually stunning.



Lisa Poisso (@emused): I'm looking through old WoW alts with my husband, we decided on a new combination of race and class for Cataclysm. The graphics weren't as important to me until I re-read the original EQ. If EverQuest's graphics were upgraded to current standards, I'd be playing it again in a flash. But as it is the graphics are a huge negative.



Patrick Mackey: My computer is experiencing some issues currently. However, if it is able to work, World of Tanks will be my next game. I'll be playing Champions. I was told that Demonflame was coming out on Friday via PTS.



StarCraft II is played at the lowest graphics settings. However, Minecraft fails because things aren't visually obvious in that game. Visuals are supposed show a player what is happening in the game. If this isn't evident, then the art designers have failed.
