The Warner Bros. Minecraft movie has an entirely new director... again. Variety reports that Peter Sollett has been hired to direct and write the long-awaited film. It was originally scheduled to be released in May this year. The film's production has been delayed due to director changes. Previously, Rob McElhenney (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia) was originally scheduled to direct the film however, he quit the project last August. He had replaced Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum), who quit in 2014.
Sollett directed 2002's Raising Victor Vargas and 2008's Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. Sollett has also been praised for his work on Five Feet High and Rising. MINECRAFT-SERVERS Mojang, Minecraft's original developer is believed to still be involved in the making of the film.
Warner Bros. acquired the rights to Minecraft in 2014. Now, the question is whether Minecraft will still be able to attract the same amount of people as it did a few years ago. While it's not known when the film will be released, there is the possibility that it will, with a new director.
