- The option was added to hide names that match. Some servers send chat messages in non-standard formats. If this option is enabled the game, it will try to hide chat messages by matching the text of messages.



It allows players to block chat with specific players, thus hiding any messages they receive from them. It opens with a customizable key binding, which is default, P. If players are hidden resets when re-joining the server. The status of a player is displayed below their name.

When you log in with an Microsoft account, players blocked in that account are now banned from playing the game and account restrictions are now being respected.


Accessibility Options screen now contains an option that opens a link to Accessibility Guide.


More details are now added to the crash log for instances where poor performance causes the server to fail to function properly.


- Added "joinedFirstServer option to options.txt.


- A new network protocol scheme with a high bit (30) set for snapshots. In the event that network protocols are used, the protocol version will be increased by 1 for each snapshot. Full releases can have the same protocol version as the previous full release.


If the version of the server and the client are not compatible, a message reading "Incompatible version!" Instead of "Client out-of-date!", a message in red will be displayed. Or "Server out of date!" in dark red. If multiplayer is disabled in dark red, the message will be "Multiplayer is disabled." Please check your Microsoft account settings." instead of "Multiplayer is disabled. Check your launcher settings."


The splashes that relate to the Black Lives Matter movement have been added to splashes.txt. The splashes were added to the game through an update to the launcher during 1.16.2 but were not in splashes.txt. The splashes are: - Black lives matter! This was the final version in full to be released in 2020. The version was originally planned to be released on October 29 2020. However, it was delayed by 4 days.

- Minecraft 1.16.4 and Minecraft 1.16.5 are both network-compatible which means that 1.16.4 servers can accommodate players from 1.16.5.
