Khazak Ambassador and Consul General Meet with Chabad in New York ( Emmanuil Grinshpun)

Yerzhan Ashikbayev has had a busy few months. As Kazakhstan's ambassador the United States, Ashikbayev, who was appointed in April, has held numerous meetings with officials from the government and diplomats. This is in order to improve the ties between Central Asian countries and the United States. The ambassador together with Consul General Almat aidabekov held a gathering for Chabad to discuss Jewish lifestyle in Khazakstankhstan.

Emmanuil Grinshpun Rabbi Mendy Kutlarsky, who is the Rabbi of Merkos Suite 301 in Chabad Headquarters and Shimon Rivkin were both invited to the meeting. Emmanuil Grinshpun who is vice-president of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress, and Honorary Consul to Kazakhstan. Together, they discussed the background of Jewish life in Kazakhstan and the present work that Chabad is doing across Kazakhstan under the guidance of Rabbi Yeshaya Cohen, Kazakhstan's Chief Rabbi. After the meeting afterward, Mr. Grinshpun stated that it was an "extremely beneficial meeting". "We are extremely fortunate to have leaders such the former president of the country, Mr. Nazarbayev or the current President, Mrs. Tokayev. They have fostered such warmth in religious tolerance in our country. "We are convinced that we all believe that the government truly is a friend to the Jewish people." the Consul General and Ambassador reiterated the government's support for any religious minority as well as the Jewish community. They expressed their interest in continuing to develop Jewish life within the Republic by cooperating with Chabad.

The government of Kazakhstan's majority Muslim population boasts of being tolerant of religion and works closely together with all sorts of religious leaders to improve the wellbeing of the country. In actual fact Ambassador Ashikbayevhas already worked alongside Chabad Shluchim and the philanthropist Mr. Abraham Shaulson while working as the the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs in Kazakhstan. Since all flights were shut down last season due to COVID-19, the man was instrumental in arranging special permission so that a small American group could fly into Kazakhstan on the 20th of Av which is the day that commemorates his death. The group also took advantage of the occasion to raise funds and transport essential PPE and medical equipment into the country. The group was a discussion of plans for the next pilgrimage with the date of 20th April was just two months from now. The organizers are expecting over 600 people this year, from around the globe. A conference for Chabad Shluchim, headed by Rabbi Moshe Kokotlarsky, as well as Rabbi Berel Lázar will also be planned. Mr. Ashikbayevconfirmed Kazakhstan's "...commitment to offer any assistance with arranging visits and prayer at the place of repose of the great Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Schneerson."

Emmanuil Grinshpun Rabbi Kotlarsky shared that they are grateful for the Kazak government's overwhelming support. "It is truly an honor to work alongside individuals like a Consul General and Ambassador. We are committed to meeting the spiritual as well as physical needs of every Jew. The Kazakhstan government in Kazakhstan has been a wonderful partner in this mission."
