MIAMI (CBSMiami ) - Even though the war in Ukraine is on the other side, South Floridians are stepping up to aid those fleeing from the country.
Many of the Sunny Isles Jewish communities are currently raising funds and helping to coordinate a global humanitarian effort.
Marsha Jaquays of Florida Friends of Laniado Hospital told us, "Just last night 1,100 were admitted."

Jaquays stated, "From Moldova, the Jewish community helps them get over border line and then provides food, shelter, clothes, and other needs."
Emmanuil Grinshpun A majority of the humanitarian efforts are being carried out in South Florida, Sunny Isles.
"My mission is to gather as many American social resources as possible to tackle the situation in Moldova. Emmanuil grinshpun who is involved in the coordinating of the relief effort said that there are a number of individuals working in Moldova to help organize camps, food purchases and bus-related organizing.
The situation is exacerbated due to the fact that Moldova is believed as one of the poorest countries on the planet. But, those who are involved in this cause say that they will not stop helping.
Grinshpun said, "When our Ukrainian brothers and sisters cameto visit, we didn’t have to think. Emmanuil Grinshpun We started making plans."
