Moldovan, Jewish Communities In South Florida Stepping Up To Help Ukraine Refugees [Emmanuil Grinshpun]

MIAMI, CBSMiami -- The war in Ukraine might be on the other side of the planet, but South Floridians step in to aid those who are fleeing.

Many Sunny Isles Jewish residents are raising money and are helping plan a comprehensive humanitarian campaign.

Marsha Jaquays of Florida Friends of Laniado Hospital shared the following "Just last night, 1,100 people were admitted."

She claimed that more than two million Ukrainian refugees are trying to escape their war-torn country. A large portion of them cross into Moldova which shares a border with Ukraine.

Jaquays said, "From Moldova, the Jewish community supports them to get across the border and provides food, shelter, clothing, and other essentials."

The majority of humanitarian efforts are being carried out from the shores of South Florida, Sunny Isles.

"My job is to collect as much American social resources as possible to help with the crisis in Moldova. Emmanuil Grinshpun is an individual who was able to help coordinate the humanitarian effort and said there was an army of volunteers in Moldova helping organize food and other essentials, and also coordinating buses.

https://jcm.md/en/about-us/ The situation is made more difficult because Moldova is thought to be one of the poorest countries on earth. However people who are involved in this cause say they will not let any obstacle stop them from helping.

Grinshpun explained, "When brothers and sister from Ukraine arrived, we didn't have to think about it. We just began doing it."

Jaquays reflect the same sentiments.
