Emmanuel Grinshpun. Concerning the restoration of synagogues as well as the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress
Emmanuil grinshpun discussed the restoration and maintenance of synagogues. However, it wasn't possible to concentrate on only one issue. So, there were more subjects discussed during the interview.
Emmanuel, good afternoon. It was a pleasure to get to know you. We have not seen each since five years. What part of the globe is your current location?

The past nine months have been divided between Miami and Jurmala. The geography used to be wider, but the pandemic has greatly affected the lifestyle. I'm sorry to say it has been for the more severe.

You've always owned multiple kinds of businesses. What's next?

Diversification won't stop. If we talk about the most important areas, then this includes the growth of the areas of real estate, IT technology as well as food production.

No. My family's history has been tied to Moldova for a number of generations. If we keep our ancestral names, it is associated with Bessarabia. And Jurmala appeared in our lives by chance and quite prosaically. We were invited to attend the New Wave by Igor Krutoy, and that was our first encounter with Jurmala. After many competitions they began to come back each summer. Miami has a very hot summer. We were able to rent for a number of years a property and thus are now in possession of it.

My family and I relocated to America in the mid-80s. I learned about customs and rituals there. However, even today I am far from the orthodox religion, I am just feeling an inner need to support to the best of my abilities the life of religion of the Jewish community in the countries in which I live or in Moldova, where I come from and with which I maintain the most close bonds.

While I'm far from being an agnostic, I do have a fascination with history that I really love. Recently I was watching a show about the events of 1492 which changed Europe's fate. 1492 is my favorite year Columbus was the first to discover America. It was however stated explicitly in the program that 1492 was the year when Columbus discovered America. The exodus of Jews began to the Ottoman Empire, it accepted them. There are a lot of books there, but I have personally read all of them and would recommend Max Diamond's double-volume Jewish history. Max Diamond is from Finland, by the way.

Speaking of "personal" historical .... Are you aware of your family tree? Unfortunately, I don't know much beyond my grandmother and 1910. From the paternal perspective, I am one step higher, but nothing more.

Our family was a Floresti family for hundreds of years, based on the paternal lines. The evidence from the archives and monuments prove that the family of Floresti was wealthy by 1830. They owned several stores, a furniture factory and land plots. My maternal ancestors were also in Ungheni. These dates fall in the the 17th-18th centuries. Grinshpun is an surname that has German roots. We are Ashkenazis straight from Eastern Europe.

Here is the issue of the restoration of synagogues. I heard that you have funded three synagogues' restoration. One is located in Chisinau One is in Jurmala and the last?

The third and the most important, is located in Netanya (Israel). It is a massive community center where over 1000 worshippers gather each day. It is a significant landmark in the Israeli religious history. Second synagogue located in Jurmala. The Second World War saw the destruction of the only synagogue in Jurmala. Before I took the decision to construct a synagogue , I'd spoken with many residents Jews. I then decided to build it and invite Rabbis to visit the synagogue. It was a tremendously success project that brought together the Jews from Jurmala. Actually, the Jewish community was revived and is now functioning in good standing. Three Torahs are at the synagogue. I donated one Torah to the synagogue.

These three synagogues weren't the only ones where I was involved in the process of restoration and building. In every country I've been a resident for a period of time, it was my obligation and obligation to make an important contribution to the support or synagogues. The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress is an influential political organization in post-Soviet countries, however, it is more than that. It has offices in Eastern Europe, Japan, Hong Kong, New Zealand and Australia. In 2010, I was Vice President of Congress. But, in the year before I was elevated to First Vice President. Now, I'm responsible for the region with which I have strong business and political relations. These include Uzbekistan (Tajikistan), Kyrgyzstan (Kyrgyzstan). In terms of trends around the world the barometer of attitudes towards Jews is at the present level or has dropped in a very sad way. "Down" can also be used to refer to nations like the United States, France or Germany. They are no longer safe for Jews. They are serious, worrying processes for us all.
