Epic Games founder and CEO Tim Sweeney says his firm "definitely won't" follow Minecraft developers in banning nonfungible tokens (NFTs).
As previously reported, Mojang Studios, Minecraft developers, banned NFT integrations on Wednesday as it believes that NFTs are speculative and are prone to scarcity, risk of exclusion, and scams are against the game's principles.
While the NFT community was extremely opposed to the move, the crypto-skeptic gamers were extremely positive.
The company of Sweeney is the creators of the widely successful battle royale game Fortnite and is seen as a Metaverse platform. While Epic Games isn’t necessarily pro-crypto and NFTs, its CEO has stated that the company isn’t trying to force any opinions regarding the subject on its users.

Developers should be free to design their games, and you're free to decide whether or not to play them. I believe that operating system developers shouldn't interfere by imposing their opinions on others. We won't.
In response to the post, Twitter user Low5ive asked Sweeney if Epic Games' policy on prohibiting "hateful/discriminatory content" differs from this. Sweeney replied that Epic Games makes "editorial" judgments, however NFTs are not currently within their jurisdiction.
"A store could decide to not make such judgments and host anything that's legal, or choose to draw the line at the accepted norms of the day as we do, or allow only games that align with the personal beliefs of the owner," he said.
Mojang Studios' NFT ban has caused NFT Worlds, a project that is based on Minecraft's open-source servers, with a major issue.

Play-to-earn (P2E), a community-driven platform for play-to-earn (P2E) is home to an entire ecosystem of NFTs and cryptos built around. The NFTs it uses generate 51,000 Ether (ETH), which is $80.8 million worth trading volume at the time. However the NFT floor price has dropped from 3.33 ETH down to 1.01 ETH since the news broke. While its native token WRLD plunged 55% in the same time frame.
The NFT Worlds team said that they are currently "brainstorming" solutions to the Mojang announcement. The team said it is trying to connect with Minecraft to see if a possible solution can be found. Otherwise, a pivot to a "Minecraft-like game engine" or GameFi platform has been discussed as possible possibilities.
