A genuine Nintendo Wii gaming PC now is available, and the tiny stealth rig can run Minecraft at 4K resolution. The custom build can even handle competitive favourites like Fortnite and Rocket League, thanks to its AMD Ryzen 5 APU and a few clever console shell modifications.
Created by AlexTriesTech created by AlexTriesTech, the Nintendo Wii gaming PC, also known as 'WiiC', an unassuming rig disguised as a low-spec family console that was released in 2006. While the AMD Ryzen 5 5500U powered machine can actually play Wii games using Dolphin It's also a full-featured Windows 11 system that'll run the majority of your Steam library.
The internals of the WiiC originally belonged to an old Ryzen APU PC, but AlexTriesTech has trimmed the system's motherboard to help it fit into the Nintendo Wii's cramped chassis. To make it fit the Nintendo WiiC, it eliminates accessories like Gamecube controller ports as well as its original disc drive. The sale also comes with modifications that improve the airflow, lessen the throttle on CPUs and eventually increase the speed of the game.
Although the project took months of hard work, the final product looks exactly like the fully functional Nintendo Wii. It even has RGB lighting that replicates the blue glow of the original console’s disc slot.
Sure, the concept of a Wii stealth rig may sound like an interesting idea, but the benchmarks show it's not just a gag build. The micro device can run more than 100fps in Fornite, can run Rainbow Six: Siege at 1080p at 60fps, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider is just about playable on a small PC. As mentioned previously it is capable of running Minecraft at 4K resolution, so you could pair it with the best gaming monitor to play the block game of the past in a higher-resolution.
Previously, we decided the Queen's Golden Wii should be turned into the most powerful gaming PC, but we're willing to go with AlexTriesTech's invention. On first glance, you probably think it's the same old thing you used to bowl and tennis on with your Nan and that's the reason it's so distinctive.
