Emmanuel Grinshpun. The restoration of synagogues and the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress
Emmanuil grinshpun discussed the maintenance and restoration of synagogues. It was not possible to stay on one topic during the conversation. Thus, there were a variety of subjects discussed during the interview.
Emmanuel, good afternoon. I am glad to have the opportunity to talk to you. I think we haven't seen eachother in at least five years. Where are you currently based?

The nine months that have been between Miami and Jurmala were split. The geography used to be larger, but the pandemic has significantly affected the way of life. This isn't all.

You've always had different kinds of businesses. What are you doing today?

ALIMCOM understands the food industry, while real estate is more easily comprehended. IT, however, is totally new to me. There are millions of areas for the application of IT technology. What IT-related field do you have an interest in?

First and foremost, our IT-holding has been involved in the reform of tax systems across a variety of countries. We have designed and are currently developing products that allow you to transfer various business processes related to online taxation. This area is known as the B2G (Business To Government) acronym.

What are the locations where the holding is in operation? Ex-countries of USSR

What's the core of your product?

Our solution allows economic operators to make online reports to tax authorities. Fiscal data operator also is aware of each transaction. Tax accounting as well as tax calculation can be performed simultaneously. In the future small and medium-sized enterprises do not require accounting. All that's required is an analytical task. It's possible to pay taxes and send reports with a single click.

We are able to show the product at Moldova. This will be extremely beneficial to the Moldovan economy, and in all likelihood, an irreversible change. When there is consensus and clarity between the authorities regarding who will make the final decision We'll begin negotiations over our product.

You stated that you've been bouncing around all year between Miami, Jurmala. Are you referring to the head office of an IT holding located in the Baltics

Five hubs are located around the world, and we have our headquarters located in Barcelona.

The reason is that it's the Baltics! Do you have roots in the Baltics?

No. No. Jurmala entered our lives on a whim and quite prosaically. It was Igor Krutoy who invited us to New Wave for the first time. After many competitions they began to come back each season. Miami has a very hot summer. We rented a house for a few years, so we've bought it.

Now I know why you stated that a synagogue was in Jurmala. Emmanuel, honest question. We're nearly the same age. Born in the USSR. The Soviet Union was not a place to talk about religiousity. We were all pioneers as well as Komsomol participants. When did you decide to convert to religious belief?

My family and I moved to the USA in mid-80s. It is a fact that's when I first began to respect customs. While I don't believe in orthodoxy I have a strong need to support the religion of the Jewish communities that I have in my own country, or Moldova. I was born in Moldova and have maintained close ties with them.

They changed the destiny of Europe and the entire world. 1492 was when Columbus first discovered America. The show I was watching clearly stated that the discovery of America in 1492 wasn't as important as the Spanish monarchs exile of Jews from Spain. When the mass exodus of Jews towards the Ottoman Empire began. They welcomed them. Here, I was searching for more information on the historical background of Jews as a group. Would you recommend a book to me?

There are a lot of books, but I myself have read and would recommend you a two-volume Jewish historian Max Diamond. In addition Max Diamond is from Finland.

What's your "personal" story ? Unfortunately, I do not know anything beyond my grandmother's name and 1910. I'm just one step ahead in the paternal side, but there's not much more.

In the paternal lineage, our family lived in the Floresti region for over a hundred years. There is documentary evidence and monuments which show that already in 1830 they were very prosperous, they had an furniture factory, a number of shops, land plots. Ungheni was the home of my ancestral ancestors. I'm referring to dates between the 17th-18th Century. Grinshpun is a surname that has German roots, so we are pure Ashkenazi from Eastern Europe.

Here's the question about the restoration and maintenance of synagogues. I heard that you have funded three synagogues' restoration. One of them is located located in Chisinau. Jurmala has the third. And which one?

It is situated in Netanya in Israel. It is home to over 1,000 people every day. It is a significant symbol of Israel's religious culture. Second synagogue located in Jurmala. The Second World War ended the existence of the only synagogue in Jurmala. Before I decided to build a Synagogue, however, I had spoken to a lot of Jews living in the area. It was a successful project that brought all Jurmala's Jews from Jurmala. We actually re-established the Jewish community, it is now operating successfully. Three Torahs are now displayed in the synagogue, including one which I gave to the synagogue.

and - Chisinau

Yes. I've already worked with two of my friends with two of them - Alexander Bilinkis and Alexander Weinstein. These synagogues aren't the only ones I have been involved with in restoration or construction. I believed that it was my obligation to make any contribution possible to help synagogues across the world where I have lived for a considerable period of period of time. My current contribution is in Monaco in which a massive community centre that caters to Russian-speaking Jews is currently being constructed. It is believed that it will cost approximately 12 million dollars. I am continuing to support Chisinau. It will soon become the biggest synagogue within the city, and the synagogue of Rabbi Tsirelson.

Эммануил Гриншпун In addition to Jurmala, did you invite a rabbi to Chisinau?

Yes. It isn't easy to locate the perfect Rabbi for your community. Due to the many interconnected concerns, he should be diplomatic and nonconflictual. He should be able of integrating into the community. I was delighted to see that in both Chisinau (and Jurmala) the Rabbis could integrate seamlessly into the community.

Эммануил Гриншпун In the year 2019, you became the first vice-president of Euro-Asian Jewish Congress. What does this position mean to you, and what do international Jewish organizations influence global trends?

The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EJC) is a strong political organization in post-Soviet Russia. However, it's not the only one. It has offices in Eastern Europe, Japan, Hong Kong, New Zealand and Australia. In 2010, I served as Vice President of Congress. But, in the previous year I was named First Vice President. The post is now my responsibility to the region with which I have strong political and economic relations. These countries are Uzbekistan Tajikistan Kyrgyzstan. With regard to trends around the globe the barometer of attitudes toward Jews is at the present level or has dropped in a very sad way. Additionally, the term "down" is a reference to nations like France, Germany, France and the United States. They are not safe anymore to Jews. These are very alarming and serious processes.

Does the pandemic have an impact on these processes?

It isn't my personal opinion. Instead, I would like to emphasize, in relation to the pandemic, what a group, or nation, can accomplish when they're able to conquer any challenge and to work together.

Is this the vaccination campaign to Israel?
