Freezing Cinnamon Rolls: 3 Different Methods
Ah, cinnamon rolls. There is nothing better than freshly baked cinnamon rolls, hot from the oven, and dripping with frosting. The best part about cinnamon rolls is that they take some time to make. I love them but I rarely make them (much less early in the morning) due to the time aspect. That's when I started to think about whether cinnamon rolls could be frozen.

As a lover of cooking with freezers that I am I decided to conduct some research about this specific issue. It is so much easier than you think to freeze cinnamon roll. asking2expert am delighted to share with you all what I have discovered today in this quick guide to learn how to Freeze Cinnamon Rolls!

While making another batch of cinnamon rolls to share with our family on Thanksgiving day, I realized that this blog post required some clarification based on my years of experience using cinnamon rolls frozen.

Pioneer Woman's recipe for cinnamon rolls is one of my favorites when I make homemade cinnamon rolls. The recipe is tasty, although it does make plenty of cinnamon rolls (between 40-50). This makes it a perfect freezer recipe because you can't possibly consume all of them in one sitting! I'll not forget to modify Ree's fantastic recipe slightly. Instead of melting butter, I made use of slightly more butter, and it only softened it. This stopped the general oozing. Her frosting is delicious too (even with vanilla , instead of maple and coffee).

Here are 3 methods for freezing cinnamon rolls

1. How do I freeze cinnamon rolls with frosting
Most people will use the first option. Simply bake and then frost the cinnamon rolls according to the instructions in the directions. Cool, wrap tightly to keep in the freezer. Freeze. When you're ready to serve, take your cinnamon roll pan out of the freezer. The rolls can be warmed in the microwave to serve.

2. How to keep cinnamon rolls that have not been baked following a rise
The other method is to freeze cinnamon rolls inside the pan - with a little rise but before baking. If you choose this method, pull the pan from the freezer the night before and let them thaw and rise on the counter overnight. Bake the pan in the morning, and then decorate it like you normally do.

3. How do you freeze cinnamon rolls prior to rising
The final method involves flash freezing individual cinnamon rolls prior to baking or rising them. This method will allow you to freeze the cinnamon roll dough.

Create your cinnamon rolls as usual. Cut your cinnamon rolls into pieces and place them about an inch apart on a cookie sheet. Then, freeze them for 30 minutes or until firm. Remove the rolls from the cookie sheet and put them in a large gallon freezer bag.

When ready to serve, remove the specific amount of rolls you'd like and place them in a baking dish. The rolls should be allowed to thaw over night on the counter. Bake and decorate according to the recipe.

How do you freeze cinnamon rolls made from scratch?
To do some research, I tested all three options and you will see them in my freezer. I prepared the frosting in advance and then frozen it (hence my huge yogurt container). Any of the three methods to freeze cinnamon rolls works however I have a few opinions on the most effective method to store cinnamon rolls.

My trusted cook, Ree, showed me how to freeze cinnamon rolls in accordance with the Pioneer Woman. She makes huge batches of cinnamon rolls that taste delicious. Ree recommends the first method of baking them and frosting them before freezing. This is the simplest and most effective method for freezing. Everything is covered already, and you only need to reheat the rolls in the microwave or the oven as you are ready to eat them.

Make sure you use disposable pans when using this method. I like this method if you're serving a huge audience and require everything to be done in advance. You can bake, then freeze your food until you're ready to serve.

Freezing the rolls in the pan prior baking (method two) is a good idea, but it takes up the freezer space. This also helps if you don't have disposable pans. It's easy to make ahead and have the pan ready the evening before. The main benefit of this technique is that your cinnamon rolls are truly fresh from the oven in the morning.
