Automattic Remote Senior Systems Engineer

We are looking for someone to join our team to provide high availability, performance, and security for more than a billion users every month from 28 locations across 6 continents. You will be involved in helping us build, develop and maintain a top global infrastructure, and sharing our learnings with the world.



As part of a small and vertically integrated team responsible for a very large setup You can participate in every aspect of the management of our infrastructure, which includes:



- Maximizing the availability and uptime of all services by proactive planning, sound architectural decisions automated processes and rapid responses to any failures; - Creating Automattic services as quick as possible for our users by optimizing server-side and client-side interactions, and work with 3rd service providers when needed;


- ensuring that our services are safe and secure for both our users and employees through a combination of proactive monitoring and enforcement, real-time response and ensuring data integrity/backups to ensure recovery from disasters


- Removing as much friction as possible between Automattic developers and their goal of shipping software. Gaming We answer questions in minutes, or sometimes seconds.

The Systems Wrangler position might be an ideal fit if you:



- Maintain large Nginx setups with advanced routing configuration load balancers, reliable performance, and high availability.


Managed large MySQL/MariaDB installations with unmatched performance as well as uptime and data integrity.


You are experienced in running and debugging PHP applications on a massive scale.


Find out the relationship between these services and lower-level stacks of systems (filesystems, network memory management, filesystems, etc.


Experience in the administration and maintenance of complex web hosting systems that are open to the public.


- Can design, prototype and maintain solutions to host needs and various issues autonomously


You must pay attention to detail and strive for unparalleled operational excellence;


You can travel for 2 weeks following COVID each year to meet up in person with your teammates.
