Minecraft players can change their name in the game soon, developer studio Mojang has announced. The process is scheduled to go live on February 4, and looks to be pretty straightforward; Once the name-changing system has been put in place, players will be able to change their in-game name simply by login to their account. Any name that isn't currently used by another player will be available. Sagor's blog However, players will need to wait for 30 days before they can change it again.
If you're worried about someone else stealing your name while you wait said 30 days before returning to it though be assured that it takes 37 days for a name that was once yours to become available to another person. If you were to change your name from, say, "MinecraftMasta" to something else, we wouldn't be able to steal MinecraftMasta for yourself before you had a chance to get it back. You cannot alter your inventory or character by changing your name. If someone blocks you in any way, you won't be able to bypass that block.
Mojang also announced that Minecraft: Pocket Edition has sold more than 30 million copies to date. Pocket Edition surpassed 21 million copies in April and it widened its reach to Windows Phone users in December, though Mojang did not disclose the number of million new sales were due to the release on a brand new platform.
