Avanos Medical Cortrak*2 Ental Access System was designed to help healthcare professionals with training to insert medical feeding tubes in the small bowel or stomach of patients who need to get nutrition through the tube. The tube that feeds patients has been linked to 23 deaths since the year 2015.

This recall is utilized to create updates to the device's labeling, including the instructions for use and the intended use. The new instructions advise users to confirm tube placement according to the protocols of their institution before using the tube for delivering nutritional supplements.
Patients can suffer serious injuries or even death in the event that a nasogastric tube, or nasoenteric tube is not correctly placed.
feeding tube placement The recall notice from Avanos Medical said that there were sixty-three injuries and 23 deaths linked to the misplacement or removal of the nasogastric feed tube during usage of the CORTRAK*2 Entral Access System. Cortrak 2 eternal access system This occurred since 2015. Pneumothorax, respiratory failure perforation (a hole, or hole in the stomach or wall) and pneumonia were all reported.
Avanos Medical issued a correction notice to customers who used these devices in the period January 2021 to January 2022, on March 21 2022. The notice provided the following guidelines:
Verify the placement of nasogastric/nasoenteric according to the institutional guidelines
Add the notice of correction for field concerning the problem to the operator's handbook.
