Avanos Medical Cortrak*2 Ental Access System was designed to allow trained health professionals to place medical feeding tubes inside the stomachs or small bowels of those who require nutritional support. There have been 23 deaths reported up to date as a result of feeding tubes in 2015.

feeding tube placement This recall is used for updates to the device's labeling that include the directions to use. The updates instruct users to verify the tube's placement in accordance with the guidelines of their institution prior to using the tube to provide nutrients.
Avanos Medical Incorrectly inserting a Nasogastric or Nasoenteric tube can result in damage to the vocal chords, lungs , or the trachea. Avanos Medical feeding tube This can lead to severe injury or even death.
feeding tube placement Avanos Medical recalls that there has been a total of 60 injuries and 23 deaths from the incorrect placement of nasogastric tubes from 2015. The adverse events that were reported included respiratory failure, pneumothorax or collapsed lung perforation (a opening in the wall of your esophagus or lung), pneumonia (a lung infection), pleural effusion, excess fluid in the lungs and chest cavity, as well as pneumothorax.
Avanos Medical sent a field correction notice on the 21st of March 2022 to all customers who had utilized the devices between January 2021 & January 2022. The following instructions were contained in the notification.
Confirm placements of nasogastric/nasoenteric tubes in accordance to institutional policies
Attach the corrected field notice relating to the problem to the operator's guide.
Avanos will be required to acknowledge receipt of the email notice.
