Mojang the development studio behind the highly successful Minecraft, has continued its five-year run of growing profits. Mojang's 2012 revenue was $237 million. A Wall Street Journal article reported that the number was $326 million in 2013 which translates to an almost $128 million profit.
About 93% of the company's revenue was generated from Minecraft and was distributed fairly evenly across different platforms including 38 percent from the PC version 30 percent from console versions, and 25 percent from mobile versions.
Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson, who is still the owner to the Minecraft IP, was the biggest cost for Mojang. The company paid out approximately $129 million in license fees to Persson last year. [Image: Mojang]
