If you keep an watch on the App Store (or have a quick RSS feed following it) you may have seen an app called Minecrafted up on a Monday morning. It's a Minecraft client for iOS and is a new version of the wildly popular indie game that can be run on an iPhone and can connect to real Minecraft servers. However, before you download it, not so fast -- the app was removed from the App Store and if you attempt to download it from the US store, you'll see an error message.
What's the matter? TUAW contacted Trevor Wilkin, the app's creator. He explained that the original idea was for the app to be created, then submitted to Apple and then approved by Minecraft before it was released. Apple threw it live right away, however, and Wilkin says he "pretty pretty freaked out and had it removed from the market as fast as I could." He doesn't know if the app is legitimate because it's entirely original code as per the description. However, presumably it was reverse-engineered because it's compatible with current servers or versions of the game.
Wilkin is a likable and innocent man to us. Wilkin says he does not want to hurt the brand but wanted to provide an efficient tool. MINECRAFTSERVERS.QUEST I'm hoping to find a solution that doesn't put anyone at risk. We're sure of it -The possibility of Minecraft officially running on iOS would be a huge benefit for both iPhone owners as well as those who love the immensely popular game.
