Another trick is to let your opponents take each other out. Play big hands when you have them at the beginning, just to keep your stack alive, but don't risk it all unless you know you've got the nuts (best hand possible with the showing cards). This way, you'll let your opponents feast on each other while you sit back and collect chips now and then. Then when there's only a few left, you'll go to work, completely changing your betting strategy, and no one will be able to touch you.

Beware of going all-in with a short stack of chips. You are far more likely to get called by a big stack because if you lose, you will be out of the tournament. You need to have an almost unbeatable hand in these circumstances.

If there is more than 1 opponent in the pot and I'm in early position, I don't c-bet unless I have a hand. This rule sounds predictable but it rarely causes a problem. If I played against the same group of people on a regular basis, I would mix it up occasionally. But for the average poker player, this is just fine.

If you hit the Flop, your bet may be smaller in nature in order to get your opponent to call and build a pot. If you missed the Flop, your bet should be much higher because your intent is to get him to fold. Too often I will see novice players make the opposite bet. They will miss the flop and then bet $50 into a $300 pot. That is asking for a call and you are building a pot that you may not be able to take down. You need to realize this before you make the bet.

Most people try to get far too clever when they're betting. They'll try and figure out if the opponent has a weak hand so they can bluff. Or they'll check in hopes that their opponent will bet so they can check raise.

"What does he have?" is what you should be thinking. You may draw this conclusion: if the opponent has an ace he has a weak ace, because he only checked after the initial raise before the flop. If he had an A-K or A-Q he would have most definitely re-raised.
