Massage is not just for the gym
Shiatsu is an alternative form of traditional Japanese bodywork based upon pseudoscientific beliefs in ancient Chinese medicine including the concept of the yin and yang. Also known as the therapy of Five Elements, shiatsu stems from the old Japanese massage tradition called anma. This massage technique employs both finger pressure and manipulation of the hands, elbows, wrists, shoulders, and feet to promote healing and relaxation.

Barefoot massage is also becoming more popular as a treatment to improve posture and relieve pain. Barefoot therapists claim that they can penetrate the fascia and underlying connective tissue by using light pressure. Barefoot therapists can then release adhesions that are holding certain parts of the body back. This massage can improve circulation, reduce stress, and relieve stiffness. Many barefoot therapists claim that they can also help heal the nervous system due to the direct contact with the nerve endings.

Another variation on the atsu is the "atsu kurabai", which literally means "fingerpressure" or "fingerbrush method." This type of ashiatsu massage involves the application of pressure to specific areas using the fingertips. This treatment is sometimes referred to as a "developmental massaging" because it focuses on a particular muscle group, while simultaneously treating the whole body. (The kurabai is also sometimes referred to as a "sitting massage.")

While these two basic styles are common, many spas have developed their own techniques. Some spas offer Swedish treatments, which involve long, flowing strokes to stimulate the muscle. Shiatsu, an Asian technique of energy flow therapy, is used by others. It involves applying pressure to specific points along the Meridian points of the body to release blockages and unblock chakras. A variety of massage types can be used in conjunction with any one style, to achieve a complete therapeutic treatment.

As the popularity of this ancient form of massage continues to grow, so too has the number of schools and therapists who offer it. One of the most popular forms is called shiatsu. Shiatsu therapists apply pressure to pressure points on the body much like a qualified Acupuncturist. But the difference is that Shiatsu therapists do not use their hands to apply pressure. Shiatsu massage therapists manipulate the tissues with their hands. A good therapist will also know when to apply pressure and when not to, which is why a good therapist should also be able to perform the ashiatsu massage.

Swedish massage is another type. This type of massage involves the use of their hands to release the muscles' tension and to open up blood flow. This allows muscles to relax, allowing them to become more flexible. Swedish massages are popular among athletes and other individuals who may benefit from improved circulation.

A very different type of therapeutic massage is called barefoot massage. Barefoot massage is done in hot rooms or saunas, as well as in private homes and spas. This massage is very popular with those who are new to the practice of massage and have never practiced it in a formal setting before. Barefoot massage is safer because the practitioner's fingertips do not touch any patient's skin. Additionally, the patient is more comfortable because they don't need to use lotions or towels to clean up any mess.

Ashiatsu, a final type of massage, is also a common one that is performed in many spas and health centres. Ashiatsu is also known as acupressure and is simply the practice of applying pressure to specific acupoints in order to relax muscles and ease tension. Many people feel that ashiatsu can be considered an art form and it is relaxing and very sensual. There are many forms of ashiatsu, but Shiatsu is the most well-known. Shiatsu was developed in Japan. This form of ashiatsu is very similar to acupressure. The goal is to heal the whole body with massage, not pain relief.
