Ski Biking in Vail
If you've been thinking about trying out ski biking in Vail, you're not alone. This resort town has many recreational opportunities for bikers of all skill levels, including mountain biking trails and freestyle parks. You can even rent a Tngnt Carve ski bike, a specialty model for extreme freestyle parks. In addition to these fun activities, you can try a guided tour and ride the Lost Lake trail.
Freestyle parks

If you're looking for freestyle skiing, snow boarding, or both, Vail has several excellent freestyle parks. Vail is spread across a broad ridge that runs east to west and contains seven Back Bowls, averaging roughly 500 acres of terrain. The terrain is incredibly varied, with everything from beginners' rails to giant mega moguls. And with a number of parks on the mountain, there's always something for all levels.

The Vail Skatepark is a great place to start if you're new to the sport. This park is designed for intermediate and advanced skaters, and is located between the two decks of the Lionshead parking structure. It's typically quiet, so you're not likely to experience crowds. The park is open daily during the summer, but closes during the winter. Beginners should head over to the Skatepark during the daytime, when the weather is still favorable.
Tngnt Carve ski bike

A Tngnt Carve ski bike in the ski resort of Vail is the perfect accessory for any mountain biking or skiing vacation. Unlike other ski bikes, which can be difficult to control, this bike has an advanced ski retention system. You can use standard bike parts, such as a threaded bottom bracket, or use skis that require a special threaded bottom bracket. A tethering system is also available for those who want to attach their own helmet to their Tngnt Carve ski bike.

The Tngnt Carve ski bike can be laid over your lap for stability or propped up vertically using the pull-down restraint bar. Since ski biking is easier than skiing, most people find it easier to ride than to master the technique. It is also equipped with a safety strap in case you fall. The bike comes with a safety harness, and most ski resorts require that the skis be tethered to the bike.
Guided tours

If you're looking for the closest thing to skiing in the summer, a guided ski biking tour is an excellent way to get some exercise while enjoying the scenery. The Vail Mountain Resort has two bike lifts and requires that your bike has functioning brakes. Guided mountain biking tours are perfect for beginners, while expert riders can find challenging trails on their own. And if you're unsure of the trails, a bike rental company will help you get started.

There are dozens of places to go biking in Vail, including adventure-themed tours and nature hikes. You can also try out tubing and go on a scenic gondola ride. You can even try skiing or tubing on snowmobiles designed for kids. While you're at it, don't forget to stop for a bite or a drink at one of the many restaurants and bars that dot the mountain.
Lost Lake mountain bike trail

The Lost Lake mountain bike trail starts and ends at Sugar Pine Point State Park, about eight miles from downtown St. Paul. It climbs through a big forest to a small lake. The trail is wide for singletrack, but can get technical in spots. At one point, it crosses doubletrack, but bears left and skirts the side of a rocky hillside. From there, the trail narrows and passes through a dark forest and shale-laden cliffs.

The Lost Lake mountain bike trail offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The trail is typically done as an out-and-back, but can also be incorporated into the Primrose Trail loop. Bears are commonly seen in the area, so take care not to surprise them while on the trail. Consider using bells or singing to alert them that you are approaching. If you're riding alone, it's best to travel in groups of two or more people.
