Smart contracts
The design and uses of smart contracts, which are similar to bitcoin scripts, are an active area of research. A smart contract is a computer protocol intended to digitally facilitate, verify, or enforce the negotiation or performance of a contract., though it is not to be confused with a transaction. A smart contract is usually represented in a computer language called source code which is compiled (or sometimes interpreted) to create an abstract machine, whose operation is defined by a set of instructions. These instructions are often defined in a separate "contract" file that can be pragmatically applied to a computer and verified within a given context.

Ethics and governance

In 2008, two groups were identified as particularly influential in the development of bitcoin: Satoshi Nakamoto, for creating the first bitcoin client to 01.org; and Hal Finney, for originating the.bit domain and creating the first open-source bitcoin software release and publishing it to the Bitnet network.

Satoshi Nakamoto's proposal of a peer-to-peer electronic cash system was published in an electronic mailing list in April 2008. Nakamoto, working under the pseudonym of Satoshi Nakamoto, released the open source bitcoin client and reference implementation, first known as the Satoshi client, version 0.3, on 31 October 2008.

The original implementation of a peer-to-peer cash system was proposed in a white paper by Nakamoto published in November 2008, which aimed to design and distribute a digital currency. Nakamoto announced in January 2009, that the paper was created under the name "Bitcoin", named after a recommendation by Finney. On 3 January 2009, Nakamoto released a paper outlining details of the proposed bitcoin system and its proof-of-concept software code. https://aviator-oyna-turkey.com/ Nakamoto explained: "The root problem with conventional currency is all the trust that’s required to give the bank a pound of flesh if you've been clever and spent it. The banks must trust (i.e. verify) that you haven't made multiple transactions 'in the same day'."

In January 2009, Erik Voorhees suggested that Nakamoto "may be a collective of people, and that the person referred to by that name as the creator of bitcoin may have been pseudonymous. In a blog post on 8 January 2009 he stated that "many people have suggested that I am Satoshi Nakamoto." He continued, "One reason I have not responded previously is that I had an agreement with the previous owners of the domain name nakamoto.org
