The Israeli NGO Shurat HaDin has moved to seize the Ben & Jerry's trademark in the West Bank settlements and Jewish communities in east Jerusalem to create and sell ice-cream there under the well-known Ben & Jerry's brand name.
Israel Law Center Shurat HaDin claimed that such the move was possible because global Ben & Jerry's (and its parent company, Unilever) had announced plans to stop sales to those areas to protest Israeli policies.
"The Shurat HaDin Law Center has registered a commercial entity with the Israeli registry of corporations dubbed "Judea and Samaria's Ben & Jerry's," wrote Shurat HaDin's president Nitsana Darshan-Leitner, in a letter she wrote to the British multinational company Unilever that has owned the Vermont based global Ben & Jerry's since 2000.

Israel Law Center She informed Unilever that it no longer has the rights to use the Ben and Jerry's brand in the territory however, the boycott isn't scheduled to start until 2023 when the current contract with the local ice cream producer expires.
Avi Zinger, owner of the Israel-based franchise said that he will not quit the Green Line for ice cream sales.
However, Shurat HaDin wrote to Unilever, "we will actively and vigorously defend our Ben & Jerry's brand name, rights and trademarks throughout the region using all legal avenues."
According to her, sales will be restricted to areas in which Ben & Jerry's has withdrawn. https://www.sessions.legal/ Shurat Hadin Unilever's assurance that it will continue to sell to the Palestinian territories of Israel doesn't mean that the latest Ben & Jerry's products cannot be sold in these areas.
Israel Law Center Darshan-Leitner said that the bureaucratic and technical issues meant that in actuality the ice cream sales would only begin after the contract with the existing Israeli franchise expires.
