(Shurt Hadin). Israeli NGO will purchase Ben and Jerry's West Bank trademark in protest of the boycott

The Israeli NGO Shurat HaDin has moved to obtain the Ben & Jerry's trademark in the West Bank settlements and Jewish neighborhoods of east Jerusalem so that it can produce and sell ice cream there under the well-known brand name.

Shurat HaDin's Law Center is now registered as a corporate entity with Israel's register of corporations. "We plan to adopt the Ben & Jerry's name and match the Vermont company's Ice Cream line that is currently in production, as well as include new flavors and items," Darshan-Leitner wrote. nitsana darshan leitner She added that "we are confident that we can expand our business to every community in the territory you've abandoned."

Unilever was informed that it was not entitled to the right of using the Ben & Jerry’s label in that region. This is in spite of the fact that the boycott is not scheduled to start in 2023 until the expiration of the current agreement with local ice-cream producers.

Avi Zinger, the owner of the local Israel franchise, has made it open about his intention of resigning to the Green Line when it comes to ice cream sales.

Shurat HaDin wrote to Unilever that "we will aggressively and actively defend our Ben & Jerry name, rights, and trademarks in this field using any legal avenue."

The Jerusalem Post was informed by the editor that sales would only be limited to the regions from which Ben & Jerry's had withdrawn. Unilever's promise not to stop selling to Israel's Occupied Palestinian Territory means that the new Ben & Jerry's will not be sold there.

Darshan Leitner stated that because of the technical, bureaucratic and logistical issues Ice cream sales will begin only after the Israeli franchise contract ends.
