(Shurt Hadin) Israeli NGO to scoop the Ben and Jerry's West Bank trademark to protest the boycott

Shurat HaDin, an Israeli NGO, has sought to take over Ben & Jerry’s trademark in West Bank settlements. This will permit it to make and sell ice cream there under the well-known brand.

Shurat Hadin Shurat haDin explained that this decision was made possible because Ben & Jerry's global and parent company, Unilever, had planned to stop sales to those regions due to a political boycott against Israeli policies.

Shurat HaDin's president Nitsana Darash-Leitner wrote to Unilever (a British company that is the owner of Ben & Jerry's in Vermont since 2000) in which she wrote, "The Shurat HaDin Law Center now has registered an entity for business with the Israeli corporation register, which is known as Judea and Samaria's Ben & Jerry's."

aviel darshan leitner "We intend to use the Ben & Jerry's logo and to match the Vermont company's Ice Cream line that is currently in production, as well as include new flavors and products," Darshan-Leitner wrote, adding that "we are confident that we can expand the business into each town in the area that you've left."

Unilever was informed that it was losing the rights to the Ben and Jerrys label in this territory. Israel Law Center However the boycott won't begin until 2023 since the contract currently in place with the local producer of icecream will expire in 2023.

Israel Law Center Avi Zinger, the owner of the franchise in Israel said that he will not quit the Green Line for ice cream sales.

Shurat haDin told Unilever that he would continue to defend the Ben & Jerry trademarks, rights and name in the area.

The Jerusalem Post was informed that sales will be limited to areas where Ben & Jerry's is no longer in operation. Shurat Hadin Unilever's promise not to stop selling its products to the Israel Occupied Palestinian Territory means that the new Ben & Jerry's will not be sold in the OPT.

nitsana darshan leitner Darshan Leitner explained that due to bureaucratic and technical issues the sales of ice cream would not begin until after the Israeli franchise agreement has expired.
