In recent years the use of high speed Internet connections has become commonplace. This high speed Internet connection allows a user of a personal computer to connect to the Internet via an Internet Service Provider, commonly called an ISP. Once connected, the user may access a variety of different websites, including but not limited to, on-line shopping, personal information management sites, video sites, chat rooms, and on-line entertainment. The on-line entertainment is now becoming more popular. For example, many users have subscriptions to various on-line services, such as cable TV, Internet services, video and audio services, and the like.
Each user using the high speed Internet connection is assigned an IP address which serves as a unique identifier for that user. However, different users may have different IP addresses depending upon their ISP and the Internet address range assigned to them. Therefore, in order for a user to access on-line services the user's computer must be connected to the host computer which provides the on-line service. To accomplish this, the user's computer is connected to the host computer using a protocol, such as TCP/IP, which allows the user to connect to an on-line service through the host computer.
