Israel group's struggle to claim [Shurat hadin]

A legal activist group based Israel is urging Australian survivors of the Holocaust and their descendants to join the program to take on insurance companies whose Holocaust-era antecedents refused to pay out for policies owned by refugees European Jews.

Nitsana Darshan Leitner, an Israeli lawyer and human rights advocate, stated she believes that Shurat HaDin Israel Law Centre was the initiator of Project Last Chance. It will sue insurance companies that used the chaos of World War II or the Shoah to not pay victims, survivors and their heirs.

If you insure your assets - your house and your life, it's your money and nobody is entitled to take it from you ... It belongs to the Jewish people, it belongs to Holocaust survivors."

Shurat HaDin leverages its expertise in the hunt for financial institutions, including banks that hold assets terrorist organizations.

Shurat Hadin "We have been able to take legal action against banks, governments and other companies who have been involved in helped or encouraged terrorist activities. We have the skills and don't hesitate to go after large banks, nations or multinational corporations," she added.

Shurat HaDin, a Shurat HaDin affiliate, is currently launching legal processes in Israel to access the database that contains around 140,000 Holocaust survivors' and descendants. However, the scheme was abruptly stopped and the participants who had signed up in the limbo.

Shurat HaDin tried to contact the government but received no response. Israel's Labour and Social Services Ministry has denied the claim that Project Heart was intended to provide individuals with claims. Therefore, the claimants can't be identified. One theory is that Israel did not realize the tenacity and determination of European governments confronted with lists of hundreds or thousands of claimants.
