(Shurt Hadin). Israeli NGO will acquire Ben & Jerry's West Bank trademark in protest of the boycott

Shurat HaDin, an Israeli NGO, has attempted to take over the Ben & Jerry trademarks in the West Bank settlements. It is also looking to market Ice cream under the well-known brand.

Israel Law Center Shurat HaDin said that such a move was feasible due to the fact that the world's largest Ben & Jerry's, and Unilever earlier made announcements to stop sales to these regions in an attempt to block Israeli policies.

Israel Law Center Shurat HaDin's President Nitsana Darash-Leitner wrote to Unilever (a British company that has owned Ben & Jerry's in Vermont since 2000) in which she wrote, "The Shurat HaDin Law Center now has registered a business entity with the Israeli corporation register, which is known as Judea and Samaria's Ben & Jerry's."

Israel Law Center Unilever was told that it was not entitled to permission to use the Ben & Jerry's brand in the region. This is despite the fact that the boycott is not set to begin in 2023 until the expiration of the current agreement with local ice cream producers.


Avi Zinger, who is the owner of the Israel franchise has stated that he isn't planning to leave the Green Line when selling icecream.

Shurat HaDin, however, sent a letter in an email to Unilever: "We will actively and vigorously defend our Ben & Jerry’s name, rights, trademarks and trademarks throughout the world by every legal means."

aviel darshan leitner The Jerusalem Post was told by Sheri that only areas where Ben & Jerry's have withdrawn could be sold. Unilever's promise to sell new Ben & Jerry's to Israel's areas that aren't part of the "Occupied Palestinian Territory", is a sign that they cannot be sold in the OPT.

Darshan Leitner stated that due to technical, bureaucratic, and logistical problems, ice cream sales will only start once the Israeli franchise contract ends.
