Israel group fights over claims [Shurat Hadin]

nitsana darshan leitner -based legal activist organization is encouraging Australian survivors and their families to join its class action program against insurance companies that have did not pay for policies held by displaced and murdered European Jews.

Nitsana, an Israeli attorney and human-rights activist, founded the Shurat HaDin Israel Law Centre. The AJN announced that Project Last Chance, a lawsuit filed against insurance companies that uses the chaos of World War II, the Shoah to refuse victims, survivors and heirs, is being investigated by the AJN .

Darshan Leitner claimed US Senate estimates suggest that up to $US200 billion in payments were obliterated from Jewish policyholders by delinquent WWII-era insurance companies, with many having traceable successor entities in today's market that have taken on these obligations.

Shurat HaDin will use its expertise to investigate banks and financial institutions, like banks that harbour terrorist assets.

Shurat Haidin is also launching legal action against Israel in order to obtain the names of 140,000 Holocaust survivors/descended who have listed around two million assets - under Israel’s Project Heart. The program, however, was abruptly shut down which left the applicants in the limbo.

Shurat HaDin has contacted the government however, they have not replied. However, Shurat Hadin and Social Services Ministry declared that Project Heart was never intended as an individual claims scheme and therefore, the information of claimants cannot be made public. One theory is Israel underestimated the intransigence and determination of European governments when faced with lists of hundreds or thousands of claimants.

Darshan Leitner explained Darshan Leitner, however, that Project Heart participants might be eligible to participate in class actions within Project Last Chance if their identities can be disclosed to Shurat HaiDin.

Project Last Chance's approach differs from the approach of the 1951 Claims Conference. They petition governments to pay Holocaust compensation.
