Israel group's fight for claim to the name of "Shurat Hadin"

A group of Israeli lawyers is calling on Australian survivors and their families to join its class-action program against insurance firms that Holocaust historical antecedents did not fulfill their obligation to pay on insurance policies owned by displaced European Jews.

Israeli attorney and human-rights advocate Nitsana Darshan-Leitner who founded the Shurat HaDin Israel Law Centre spoke to the AJN that the centre's project, Project Last Chance, will seek to sue insurance companies that employed the chaos of World War II and the Shoah to avoid paying claims to victims, survivors and their heirs.

Darshan Leitner reported that US Senate estimates show that approximately $US200billion was withheld from Jewish policyholders as a result of the insurance companies that operated during WWII. These companies are often traceable and have successor entities.

Shurat HaDin uses its financial expertise to pursue banks harboring terrorist assets.

Project Last Chance will be following a different path than the Claims Conference in 1951. This conference has petitioned countries for Holocaust repartition, however it is it has not specifically targeted firms and companies.
