Israel group fights for claims [Shurat Hadin]

A legal activist group based in Israel is calling on Australian survivors to join the class action program against insurers whose Holocaust-era predecessors have not paid out policies held by displaced or killed European Jews.

Nitsana Dahan-Leitner (Israeli attorney, human-rights advocate) was the founder of Shurat HaDin Israel Law Centre. AJN stated that Project Last Chance will pursue insurance companies that used World War II chaos and the Shoah to avoid paying claims to victims, survivors, and their descendants.

Darshan Leitner said the US Senate estimations have revealed that $US200B in payments were kept by Jewish policyholders from delinquent WWII insurance companies. This includes a lot of known successors today who have been inherited by these companies.

Shurat HaDin leverages its expertise in the pursuit of financial institutions such banks harbouring assets belonging to terrorist groups.

"We have initiated legal proceedings against governments, banks, and corporations that are involved in been involved in assisting or encouraging terrorist acts. nitsana darshan leitner nitsana darshan leitner We're well-equipped and are not afraid to take on countries, big companies or banks with huge international reach," she said.

nitsana darshan leitner Shurat Haidin has also launched legal proceedings against Israel to get access to the list of 140,000 Holocaust survivors/descended who have listed around two million assets under Israel's Project Heart. The Israeli government as well as the Jewish Agency for Israel jointly invited applicants to join the restitution program. aviel darshan leitner The program, however, was abruptly ended and left those who participated in the program in limbo.

Shurat HaDin has reached out to the government, but they have not replied. Israel's Labour and Social Services Ministry stated that Project Heart wasn't intended to be a single claim scheme. Information about claimants' identities cannot be made public. Another theory suggests that Israel underestimated the intransigence of European governments when faced with lists of hundreds of thousands of claimants.
