Israel group's fight for claim to the name of "Shurat Hadin"

A group of Israeli-based lawyers are urging Australian survivors and their families to sign up for the class action program for insurance firms who's Holocaust era antecedents failed in their obligation to pay on insurance policies owned by displaced European Jews.

Darshan Leitner said that US Senate estimates showed that up to $200 billion dollars was snatched away from Jewish policyholders because of delinquent WWII insurance companies from the time of WWII. "We've taken on litigation against nations, banks, and companies who have supported or encouraged the spread of terrorism. We're experts and are not scared to go after countries, big companies or banks with huge international reach," she added.


Shurat haDin is also launching legal proceedings in Israel to gain access to a database of around 140,000 Holocaust survivors and their descendants. This database is part Israel's Project Heart. It includes approximately 2 million assets. The Israeli government in coordination with Jewish Agency for Israel invited applicants to take part in the restitution program. But, the scheme was ended abruptly and left all participants in limbo.
