A transaction consists of a inputs section and an outputs section. The inputs section lists out all previous transactions that eventually paid for the transaction. Bitcoin could be called a double-spending scheme as the same bitcoin can be spent twice. The input section makes it difficult to double spend; the output section does not:
A transaction creates an input if a previous transaction (as listed in the block s inputs field) was paid with one or more of a transaction’s bitcoins, and the transaction being added is attempting to spend the same amount.
An input consists of the following fields:
* Address is a hash of the public key of the receiving address. Input script is a script that the user can use to validate the address and prevent spending to a double-spender address.
The value field of inputs is described as a value to be created based on the contents of the inputs section, where the value field is a hash of the previous transaction's inputs' hashes.: ch.
Outputs
The inputs field of a transaction's outputs section will have one or more input addresses. Every transaction has at least one output. Output scripts are used to validate the inputs and prevent double-spending of outputs.
The outputs section contains two types of outputs: NOP and OP_RETURN.
NOP
In a NOP transaction the inputs have no value. NOP outputs are similar to change, in that they can be used to break transaction malleability:
Change outputs
In the case that transaction fee is excluded by miners, as it was originally in bitcoin, there is a large block size of 1 megabyte. This causes malleability, and change outputs can be used to prevent it. A miner may choose to not include any change outputs. If they do so, they can modify the transaction information in the block. For instance, they can claim the change output as a 1-of-2 multisig output that would have the same scriptSig as another transaction. If the change output were created on a separate line, it would become more difficult to mistype; but it is not clear whether such an alteration of a block would be considered as tampering, and if so, the validity of the chain would be compromised.: 166 6 n.
