To participate in blockchain transactions, nodes must have bitcoin software installed, and permanently accessible to the network. Full nodes verify transactions, link them to transactions, and generate new blocks. Other nodes are also served by the validating nodes. In a Bitcoin relay network, full nodes route transactions and blocks to other full nodes, and lightweight nodes verify transactions and blocks that they are given by full nodes. In Ethereum, full nodes route blocks to other peers using a method called Routing. A peer that provides Routing is called a Routing node; others are called Client nodes. : 218  Lightweight nodes are much less resource-intensive than full nodes, and can be implemented in a variety of configurations; examples include SPV and CPU-only nodes.
