How to stay current with the music of your home country even though it's been 10 years since you left.

How are you doing? I am an 18-year-old Russki man who came to America in search of an improved life. I was extremely poor back in Russia. I wasn't near the middle class and I wasn't rich at all. My family was not my own per se. In Russia young adults didn't need money back as I grew older, therefore we needed to find ways to earn money. There were many different strategies. Most of them looked like alcoholics who asked their friends for just a few dollars to buy their own vodka bottle. The principle is the same. We would look for quick money for bread, or to get to work. We were always hungry..

So I made it to America. There's nothing quite as beautiful as New York City, Brooklyn, Brighton Beach. It's a place that reminds me of my hometown. It's noisy, filthy, it's full of Russian language, and people are rude,, just a normal Russian city experience. I spent quite a bit of money in Russia, mostly to visit Russian restaurants and bookstores and music stores.

Books and music are two of my favourite things. However, as of recently it is easy to find Russian books on Kindle. Therefore, I have stopped buying hard-copy books. Furthermore, I do not have enough space in my home. My wife is a hoarder. Therefore, I do all I can to prevent adding to her clutter. While stacks and stacks of books look intelligent in the beginning, when they became old they became dull and dull. After that I moved them into my garage.

But music is something different. My job involves a lot of driving, so I am constantly listening to music. Because I am an Russian immigrant, there is no way I can like new music from the USA. I'm not a fan of rap, hip-hop, metal, rock or pop. And all the new age music that children love to dance. I am in love with Russian music, and songs written in jail. They are still quite well-known even though I've been gone for twenty years. Youtube is where everything happens. YouTube is my preferred music streaming site. I listen to it every day, whether I am at home or at work.


After a while, I've created a nice long playlist of more than 300 songs I absolutely enjoy. This is my constant companion. I listen to it every day and don't find it difficult to use. There are over 300 songs! However, when I want the songs to be played in my car, I don’t always have internet access. I'm required to have it in order to drive, for navigation. I prepare all the necessary preparations at home. Now that I am near the middle of my list, I record a few songs from Youtube and then convert them to MP3 files. Then , I save the mp3s on an audio CD using my laptop. I then take the disc to the car to listen to. The website I came across is able to take a Youtube playlists and print all the songs in it, and each song can then be converted into mp3 and saved to my personal computer. It's then easy to transfer the song to an audio CD. Sometimes, I'm a mess and just make data CD. It doesn't work on my old car stereo. If audio files are recorded, it's amazing the way technology operates. It's not necessary to be connected to the internet to listen to mp3s. It's easy and cheap to download video content from Youtube and convert them to MP3 format so that you can save them to your phone. I saw a friend of mine connected his phone to his car stereo, and it was playing very high quality audio, just in 2 seconds. Also, it was possible to stream Spotify and Pandora radio, which means you don't need too much internet. I'm thinking of giving this a try. However, I'll be cautious about using wifi that is free.
